I LOVE Christmas and everything about it! It’s a time to gather together with friends and loved ones. The joy, generosity, the parties, and love shared definitely is a highlight to end of my year.
Right now, as it stands, I’m honestly not at all ready for Christmas (though it’s 6 days away). However, I’m going to share my 5 top things I love about this joyous and blessed Holiday.
1. The Birth of Jesus Christ
This goes without saying. CHRISTmas is all about…well…Jesus Christ!
Christmas for me isn’t just a time of celebration, but also reflection.
I’m always in wonder and awe of how Jesus came from Heaven to Earth while making his small and humble appearance even as a Heavenly King.
I also embrace that His coming was a sign of joy and hope showing the world that God DOES fulfill His promises. We can look forward to what He’ll do in this life but also have the hope of Heaven through His son, Jesus Christ.
Talk about MAJOR JESUS JOY!
2. Colder Weather
I’ve lived in tropical and humid South Florida for about 2 years now so “colder weather” here is likely still considered a beach day to the rest of the country.
However, when I did live in the valley in Southern California, it was awesome to wear boots, jackets, sweaters, and berets. Snow-capped mountains were even visible from where I lived. I also love putting on fuzzy socks or pajamas while enjoying a nice cup of tea or hot chocolate (heavy on the tiny marshmallows) or self-swaddling myself with a warm blanket.
I can’t say I’ve done too much of that in the few years past. However, I ALWAYS have my fuzzy boots on standby.
3. Christmas Decorating
The lights, the ornaments, the garland. I LOVE them all. As a creative, I love experimenting and finding creative ways to make decorations nice and functional. For years, I’ve been the go-to girl for Christmas decorations at home and with friends. Lights, trees, you name it. I’m decorating and enjoying every minute of it.
*Fun Fact: In 2016, I decorated a Christmas tree for the city parade my local church in California was part of. The city gave us first place.
4. Christmas Traditions
Since I was a kid, my family had really awesome Christmas tradition. One special tradition was having all the extended family for Christmas breakfast over my grandparents’ house and then coming back to my house for opening gifts and dinner. Another was helping my mom bake chocolate chip cookies since she ONLY makes it once a year.
One of the cooler Christmas tradition we have is “Christmas Eve Game Day”. Every year on Christmas Eve, we would spend the entire day in our pajamas and play video games from sun up to sun down. It was a good way for the siblings to come together. Even my parents got in on the action.
Being newly married, I still carry on on the tradition as both Donovan and I are gamers (THANK YOU JESUS). We still plan to carry out the tradition in our family.
After all, the family that plays together, stays together!
5. Wrapping Gifts
I’ll admit, I’m NOT the greatest at it. However, I still love wrapping gifts (in the best way I know how). Of course, I do try to get creative since I believe that presentation when giving gifts is EVERYTHING.
There’s also something about the element of surprise and seeing the reaction of that friend of loved one’s face when they open their gift. It excites me. Plus, gift giving makes you feel good and is part of the spirit of generosity in Christmas.
The statement holds true: It is MUCH BETTER to give than to receive.
Of course, the list goes on and on of the many things I love about Christmas. I have so many that we’ll probably already be in mid January 2020 talking about it.
